Care of Catch
There is more to BC salmon fishing lodges than catching. The care of your BC salmon catch is also of the utmost importance. Our commitment to timely and thorough cleaning and processing will ensure your fish will remain tasty for months to come after your trip to Rivers Inlet. At the Rivers Inlet Sportsman’s Club we custom process each fish depending on your specifications. Fish is left whole or filleted into meal sized portions. Filleted fish is vacuum sealed and whole fish are packaged in heavy plastic. We then flash freeze your BC salmon catch to maintain its freshness. On your day of departure, the salmon will be cleaned and packed in plastic bags as there is no time to freeze your catch before the planes arrive to pick you up.
Your fish is packed for travel in a sturdy airline approved waxed box to ensure your salmon, halibut and other fish arrive home in excellent condition. You will be asked to check your box before it is closed to ensure that the fish in the box matches the numbers on your/our tally sheet. You must carry your saltwater fishing licence with you and not packed in checked luggage. At no time will you be allowed to overfish your limit. If you are transporting someone else's fish you will need to carry a signed note showing their permission and have their fishing licence in your possession.
Smoking and canning of some or all of your BC salmon can be arranged while you are at the fishing lodge. We offer tasting of all types of smoked and canned salmon to help you decide how you would like your fish processed by St. Jean's Cannery. The Cannery fish goes out to Vancouver and then on to the processing plant in Nanaimo
For those lucky guests who catch their trophy BC salmon, taxidermy services can be arranged at the fishing lodge with Gander's Taxidermy.
