January Already! It’s already almost the end of January, do you ask yourself, ‘where does the time go’? At the Rivers Inlet Sportsman’s Club, we are already looking forward to another great fishing season in 2017. We are in the midst of re-hiring most of our staff, many of whom have been with us for multiple summers. They are our biggest asset & are an integral part of helping us to deliver to our guests a memorable Sportsman’s Club experience. At a recent lodge meeting the Department of Fisheries & Oceans (DFO) reported their forecast for strong salmon returns in 2017 coast-wide, which adds to the excitement
The New Year also brings with it the peak of our booking season. Many people like to make their summer fishing plans well in advance to ensure that they can fit us in to their busy schedule. If you have not already done so, please contact us now about booking your trip so that you are able to secure the dates that best fit your schedule.
SeabirdsOver the recent holidays, the winter caretakers at our fishing lodge in Rivers Inlet took part in the coast-wide Audubon Bird Count. Even though the weather was cold & stormy, they did see 473 individual birds of 18 different species including Eagles, Scoters, Golden eyes, Grebes & the endangered Marbled Murrelets amongst them. Seabirds are a big part of the maritime environment in BC with hundreds of different species, millions of birds & numerous Ecological Reserves established to protect colonies of breeding seabirds & their habitat. One interesting example of note is the Sooty Shearwaters that, according to a new study, migrate nearly 40,000 miles a year, flying from New Zealand to the North Pacific Coast every summer in search of food. This extensive summer trek is the longest animal migration ever recorded.
Guest TestimonialOur Summer 2016 fishing trip was five years in the making. Work and my kids made it a little challenging to carve out the time. But finally, my dad and I were able to make it work. Celebrating his 65th birthday on the water, doing what he loves to do was the perfect way to celebrate. He never treats himself so this was extra special. What made it even better is that all of our expectations were exceeded! We got so lucky with the most beautiful weather. I booked a guide for our first afternoon to get us off on the right foot. Navigating the Inlet made us a little anxious but Doug showed us all the pointers needed so that we were able to be successful on our own the remaining days. I can't begin to describe all the things we loved about this trip. From the perfect location to the accommodations, food, amazing staff, great boats and gear, the beauty of the area and yes, all the fish we brought home were beyond anything we could have imagined. My most favorite part of it all is that I got to experience it with my dad, my friend. We have memories that will last a lifetime. I love hearing him tell all his buddies how great it was. He won't go again without me so his buddies are hoping I'll make all their travel plans and make a trip happen for them, too!!
Thank you, Simon, from the bottom of my heart for the unbelievable trip with my daddy. His little girl is beyond grateful!! Kristie W. OR
