Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! As you know we honour the turkey dinner at the Sportsman's Club. For 36th seasons we have been serving them weekly to our loyal & longtime guests! Some say they come back just for the turkey! Here are some stats: 4 turkeys/week for 36 summers = over 1,000 buzzards served up! And it is still our favourite meal at the Lodge. We hope that you are sharing some turkey this weekend with friends & family & planning your next fishing get-away! If you haven't already done so call today to book your 2020 fishing trip. HAPPY THANKSGIVING from all of us at the Rivers Inlet Sportsman's Club (RISC).

Fishing Report August 13, 2019WOW WOW WOW is all we can say about the season so far! The fishing has been consistent all summer with no real gaps in the waves of salmon funneling through our area & the resulting steady action. And again, the best fishing has been at the known spots only minutes from the Lodge.

Business As UsualThere has been some confusion over what the catch limits are for the upcoming summer salmon fishing season in B.C. So we decided to be a part of the Vancouver Sun/Travel Section Fishing Lodge segment. There are some closures in the southern waters for Chinook/King salmon so there has never been a better time to move your fishing program North! 2019 regulations for fish retention at the Rivers Inlet Sportsman’s Club (RISC) will remain the same as they have been for over 30 years.

Good News AlertIt’s time to look forward to summer 2019 adventures &, if you have not already done so, book your fabulous fishing adventure with us today! There has been some confusion over what the limits are for the upcoming summer salmon fishing season in BC. The Canadian Federal Government agency that regulates the number of salmon our guests can retain/take home, the Department of Fisheries & Oceans (DFO), has recently enacted some new conservation measures that restrict the retaining of Chinook/King salmon in certain areas in BC at specific times. However, the good news for our guests is that the 2019 DFO Regulations for fish retention at the Rivers Inlet Sportsman’s Club (RISC) will remain the same as they have been for over 30 years.

Why Rivers Inlet?BIG trophy world-record breaking sized salmon, is the reason the Sportsman’s Club is situated at the ocean end of Rivers Inlet on the central coast of beautiful British Columbia (BC). For over 35 years the Kelly Family has built, owned & operated the fishing lodge. The Canadian Federal Government agency that regulates the number of salmon our guests can retain/take home, the Department of Fisheries & Oceans (DFO), has recently enacted some new conservation measures that restrict the retaining of Chinook salmon in certain areas in BC at specific times. The good news for us in Rivers Inlet is that for our entire July/August season our guests will still be able to retain up to 4 of the largest species of salmon as part of their total 8 salmon.

Good News ReleaseAfter much anticipation, speculation, rumours & delays, the Department of Fisheries & Oceans (DFO) Canada has finally released the sport fishing regulations for this summer. You may have already heard rumours that there are conservation concerns regarding some Chinook/King salmon runs in BC & that there may be some adjustments to the catch limits in specific areas. Many of you may have even heard incorrectly that “salmon fishing in BC is closed”. We are reaching out to assure you that this is NOT the case.

Hatchery Update 2019We have had a long history of salmon enhancement in Rivers Inlet. Over 35 years ago we decided that we needed to take things into our own hands & enhance the salmon runs in our area using our own initiative. We formed an association of lodges on the central B.C. coast with the sole purpose of using our own resources to start a private hatchery program. The Rivers Inlet North Coast Salmon Enhancement Association (RINCSEA) was formed.

Where to Fish at Rivers InletOne of the many great things about Rivers Inlet Sportsman’s Club is the extremely close proximity to several excellent fishing spots. The lodge is literally minutes away from some of the best fishing on the Canadian West Coast. My family & I have been coming to Rivers Inlet for many years now & have gotten to know the area quite well on our numerous trips. Although there are really no bad fishing spots in the area, & time on the water is always a pleasure whether the fish are biting or not, here are a few of our favorites.

Already calendars are getting filled up & it becomes harder & harder to coordinate dates even for just a group of 2 of you! Contact us anytime to make your plans.

Happy New Year!We hope that you had a fabulous time with friends & family over the holiday season. With the coming of the New Year most of us are back to work & reflecting on the year that was. Of course, as tradition would have it, naturally we are all curious as to what type of “resolutions” our friends & family have made?

Happy Holidays! It isn’t really until the first snowflake flies in my face that I completely let go of summer & officially start to embrace the fall/winter season. With Halloween & Canadian Thanksgiving now behind us, & American Thanksgiving on the horizon, “Holiday Season” is officially upon us. Now is the time to reflect on the year that has passed.

Summer 2018 Fishing ReportIt is hard to believe we have already been back from the fishing lodge for over a month now. We have all settled into our regular lives but have great memories of the successes of our 35th summer at the Rivers Inlet Sportsman’s Club (RISC). We are straight back into the office here & already getting ramped up & making bookings for summer 2019. When the Kelly Family started the Lodge back in 1986, we had no idea we would become one of the longest running & most successful fishing operations in the world.

Our 35th Fishing Season is a WrapWe are just back home after an amazing summer at the Lodge. The Kelly Family started the Lodge back in 1984 so we marked the milestone of our 35th summer of operation with the usual fun, adventure & shenanigans.

Fishing Report August 2018We are well into our season here at the Lodge hosting our 5th group. The fishing was strong to start, tapered off last week but they are back with a vengeance for this trip! The big news has been the sunny weather. We have seen hardly a drop of rain all summer & that makes for some great boating conditions & spectacular sunsets.

Early Season FishingThis is our last week in the office here in town before we head up to the lodge with the rig-up crew. First we fly to Port Hardy & spend a day prepping & provisioning our 6 bigger guide boats. We then run them into the lodge in the calm water at first light. This 5 hour adventure in open ocean conditions takes us through some of the most breathtaking scenery on the BC coast & is definitely a highlight.

See You At The Show!River Inlet Sportsman's Club is proud to be a part of the Oak Tree Gun Club 2017 Summer Blast May 6th & 7th - 2017.
Apr 14, 2017
Happy Easter!Recent predictions by the Department of Fisheries & Oceans (DFO) are for another record run of salmon in our area in summer 2017. They are also predicting larger fish as more 5 & 6 year old Chinook/King salmon will be part of the mix. This positive outlook appears to be the result of a “perfect storm” of cooler ocean temperatures (resulting in more food & better ocean survival) less commercial fishing pressure for many years & the overall improvement in stewardship of spawning habitat.

Spring Has Sprung... AlmostJust when we thought spring was upon us & that things were thawing out a bit here in the Pacific Northwest, we are DEEP into another cold snap … hopefully our last one! What a winter it has been with record rain, snow & storm conditions all over North America. All this bodes well for the returning salmon runs all over the Western Pacific with an abundance of water in the rivers & more to come with the soon to melt snow pack.

Rain Rain Go Away!Rain, rain, rain & more rain is what has been on the “menu” for the past month here in British Columbia. In fact, we have broken the record books for the most consecutive days of rain since they started documenting the weather in the 1930’s!

Fishing Report 2016Another fishing season is over, & many of our guests are counting the days until they come back in 2017. After a slower start to the fishing season than we expected, the good fishing has been memorable in its abundance of salmon. It's not been unusual to hear, it's the best fishing I've experienced anywhere in my whole life

Early Season Fishing Report 2016Our Sportsman's Club guests are loving the action out on the water. Yesterday was a good day and many guests came in with their limit of fish. However, last year's record of a 64 lbs Chinook still stands - but there is still time in the season to break this

Special Time At Sportsman's ClubWe get asked all the time what makes a trip to the Sportsman’s Club so “special”. There are a few things that define the experience with us.The world class salmon and halibut fishing puts us on the map for sure.

Catching Trophy Chinook/King Salmon using Downriggers and HoochiesPart of our amazing fishing success these past few seasons has been refinements we continually make to our tackle, techniques & training regime. For almost 30 years we were a traditionally top-water bait fishery.
